Celestine Fraser named UK’s most influential disabled person in media and publishing

I’m hugely honoured to have been named the UK’s most influential disabled person in media and publishing in the Shaw Trust’s 2023 Disability Power 100 list, as well as the 8th most influential disabled person in the UK overall.

When I turned up to the Disability Power 100 awards night in November, I was very much thrilled just to have made the list - I absolutely didn’t expect this extra recognition. I was reluctant to get out of my seat and get up on stage to collect the award because I was convinced they’d make a mistake (I thought it was going to be a La Land/ Moonlight Oscars’ moment!).

As you can imagine, it was a very surreal night, made all the more surreal by a piece the next day in the Daily Mirror!

I’m incredibly grateful for this recognition — it’s given me extra motivation to keep working hard on Just Copy, to keep collaborating with the brilliant people I love working with and to keep thinking about how we can use language and storytelling to break the taboo around disability.

You can read more about my work and what this recognition means to me here on the Power List website.
